The Board’s Parent Involvement Committee is pleased to hold its second full-day event for families of WRDSB students: RISE TO SUCCESS—Supporting Your Child in School on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Bluevale C.I. The day’s sessions include a keynote address by Michael Reist, author of What Every Parent Should Know About School, and workshops on topics of interest and concern to parents of students of all ages.

Sleep!

February 13, 2014

Please mark the evening of Tuesday February 25, 2014 on your calendar. We are very pleased to to be working with the Mental Health and Addiction Nurses in the Waterloo Region District School Board to share information about the importance of a good night’s sleep and strategies to support students and families. We are also providing a pizza dinner at 6:00 that evening and babysitting during the presentations. More information can be found here on our sleep poster. We hope to see you there!

Parking Lot Safety

The safety of our students is of utmost importance at Howard Robertson Public School.  A letter to parents outlining parking lot concerns, and the steps that we are taking to keep our students safe, is attached in this Parking Lot Letter.  As well, a map of our school community can be found at this link, Howard Robertson Public School.  We are very appreciative of our School Council members who volunteer their time to monitor our parking lot before and after school every day. Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten Registration Poster

  • We are excited to register your child for Kindergarten!

 

  • You can register your Junior Kindergarten (JK) or new-to-school Senior Kindergarten (SK) students from Monday, February 10 until Friday, February 14, 2014, during regular school office hours.

 

  • If you have a child born in 2010, he/she is eligible to start JK in September 2014.  Students born in 2009 are eligible to start SK in September 2014.

 

  • If you know of anyone in our school community who has a child eligible for Kindergarten, please refer them to the school website for more information.

 

  • Please call our school office to make a registration appointment.  In addition, four central Kindergarten registration opportunities will take place for families unable to register their child during office hours.  These registration events will take place as follow:
  • Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 WRDSB Education Centre, Cambridge Room    9:00 am to noon
  • Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014 Bluevale C.I.   5pm to 8 pm
  • Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014 Forest Heights C.I.  5pm to 8pm
  • Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 Galt C.I.  5pm to 8pm

Erick Traplin Show at Howard Robertson PS

Come to Howard Robertson Public School on Thursday January 16 to see Erick Traplin live.  Erick’s website is: http://www.ericktraplin.com/  Doors open at 6:00 pm. Tickets are only $2.00 each and ticket order forms were handed to students today and one is included here: traplin flyer. Erick Traplin is generously donating his time to perform this concert to benefit our Nutrition for Learning program. Hope to see you there!

An Evening with Dr. Ross Greene

On Thursday, January 16, 2014, the Waterloo Region District School Board is hosting An Evening With Dr. Ross Greene for parents, guardians, and the community. Dr. Ross Greene is a dynamic speaker and passionate advocate of Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS). He is Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard University, and the author of The Explosive Child and Lost at School. CPS (formally known as Collaborative Problem Solving) is an approach that helps parents, guardians and caregivers work responsively to resolve the challenging behaviours of children of all ages. Dr. Greene will describe clear and practical strategies caregivers and children can use to resolve disagreements and disputes in a collaborative, mutually satisfactory way.

Change for Change

We are very pleased that our We Day Committee has organized a “Change for Change” fundraiser for Nutrition for Learning. Students are encouraged to bring in spare change and we will recognize those donations on the display outside of the office.

Holiday Concert: Tuesday December 17

We are excited to announce our upcoming Holiday Concerts on Tuesday December 17, 2013.  Students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 along with our Junior Choir will be performing. There will be two performances of the concert.

Tuesday December 17, 2:00 pm ( doors will open at 1:30 pm)

Tuesday December 17, 7:00 pm (doors will open at 6:30 pm)

School Council will be hosting two fundraising events during the concert. They will be selling Candy Cane Reindeers and also there will be a raffle for some great holiday gifts. Tickets will be sold at the concert and the raffle will be located at the back of the gym. Please remember to bring some loose change and help support technology, reading, and mathematics instruction at Howard Robertson!

Positive Discipline, Cooperative Kids

KW Counselling

We are very pleased that KW Counselling is running a parent information evening entitled, “Positive Discipline, Cooperative Kids” at Howard Robertson PS on Thursday November 14. This workshop will help you get past daily power struggles with your children. It will show you how you can encourage cooperation, set realistic expectations/limits, and problem-solve using positive discipline strategies. The workshop will start at 7:00 and run until 9:00.
